(Wuthathi Country, FNQLD and Mabuiag Island,Torres Straits) Arieta is in her final year of high school and hopes to pursue a career in fashion design. Passionate about textiles, design, communication, and sustainability, she enjoys exploring creativity through a range of artistic mediums. This year, Arieta experimented with textured paints to create depth and movement in her artworks. Her pieces celebrate identity, culture, and connection—from the shared portrait of herself and her grandmother, Aunty Doseena Fergie, honouring their bond through music, creativity, and storytelling, to Woman, which reflects the strength of relationships between women across generations and within ourselves.
Her artwork Ravines showcases her love of Torres Strait Islander patternwork and cultural design, with each section painted week by week throughout Year 12 as a grounding practice during a busy school year. This year, Arieta was also awarded a prestigious Marrung Education Scholarship awarded by the Victorian Education Department for her VCE studies. She proudly designed and created both her Year 12 formal gown and graduation dress, reflecting her dedication and talent as an emerging fashion designer.
