Laurita is a very proud 4th generation Bunurong/ Palawa Elder who was born in Launceston, Tasmania. Laurita’s artistic inspiration comes from her cultural heritage and her personal experiences. She believes art is a way of cultural healing. Laurita has a long history of using her artistic talents to help others. She worked for the Tasmanian Aboriginal Child Care Association with the late Aunty Molly Mallett, introducing the arts as a way of engaging the children in their cultural heritage. Laurita is very proud of the time she spent planning programmes for youths which explored social issues while also encouraging them to use the arts as a way of healing. In 2015 two of Laurita’s artworks from the Tasmanian Minds do Matter exhibition were chosen to be part of the travelling Rural Art Roadshow in a collective project between the centre for Rural Health, the University of Tasmania and Wellways. Laurita owns her own creative business called Bunawa Arts. Bunawa includes reproductions of her artworks and original art effects.
